King Mackeral

King Mackeral are bluish green in color with the sides a silvery hue. Their body is streamlined with a tapered head.  No black pigment on front of dorsal fin, lateral line starts high and drops sharply below the second dorsal fin. Avearge around 20 pounds, record size is 90 pounds

King Makeral are schooling fish that migrates fom south Florida waters in winter to more northerly waters in spring. The Gulf of Mexico schools are thought to be separate from the Atlantic population. They feed on small fish and squid.
